Psalm 1:3 KJV
[3] And he shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that bringeth forth his fruit in his season; his leaf also shall not wither; and whatsoever he doeth shall prosper.
I recently ran into some tiny oaks in a flower garden! As I tried desperately to get them out by the root, I noticed that they were firmly planted. They did not easily come up! When I finally got one to come out root and all, I noticed something. The body of the root was greater than the body of the tree! Pulling those little guys up was no small task and even gave me a few blisters. The moral is in the parable of the seed. When we let the Word of God take root in our heart, we can grow into a great Christian, bringing glory and honor to Christ! This can only happen when we allow the Holy Spirit to "Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the Lord , till he come and rain righteousness upon you." Hosea 10:12. I could not help but notice the difference in pulling of the little oaks and the slightly larger pines in the same flower garden.
On a scale of 1 to 10, the oaks were at a 9 and the larger pines were at a 4. Placing them side by side, you see that the root system is different. The pines have a short and wide root system and the oak trees have a system that runs straight down, deep into the soil. If allowed to grow, both will become trees of enormous height and size. However, when adversity comes to each of these trees, the oak will stand strong while the pine is turned over by the strong winds. This winter we witnessed this on Christmas Eve when a snow storm knocked out power to my in-laws neighborhood. The culprit was several downed pine trees. One even fell across the road, preventing us from getting back to pick up our kids from their house! What is the point, you might ask? What is the relationship between God's Word and our heart. Do we have a surface relationship with the Scriptures or do we dig deep into the pages of that great Book! Do we dig deeper into God's Word to see how He wants us to live? Do we read His Word like a blueprint for our life? Do we allow His Word to direct our paths? More importantly, do we study His Word to show ourselves approved unto God?
Hopefully you can see that the amount of God's Word we allow into our life directly affects how we are able to stand in adversity. Will you chose to be a Psalm 1:3 Christian? God bless and thanks for reading!
